Measure your actual usage
Check your phone’s data counter and the apps using the most data. If possible, reset the counter and observe a day similar to how you will use it while travelling. Someone else’s figures are not very useful if you make video calls, upload videos or work on a laptop.
Organise three types of usage
Messaging and checking directions can usually use moderate amounts of data if you download resources before leaving. Social media autoplay, photo backups and video can sharply increase usage. Sharing with a computer adds updates and syncing that you may not notice on your phone.
Set up the phone using Wi-Fi
Download maps and any documents you need, save bookings, and reduce video quality. Set updates and backups for wifi. Keep your accommodation details available offline so you do not depend on the network when you land.
Check the daily limit
A plan with a daily threshold is not a total allowance you can use whenever you like. Check when the limit resets and the speed after it is reached. Do not assume you can make video calls or work normally at reduced speed; ask for the exact figure before buying.
Sources and checks
Check your operator’s conditions and your model’s documentation. References: Apple: eSIM on trips and European Union: roaming. The plan data come from Mundi eSIM's catalog and must be confirmed before contracting.
